Abstract

The article focuses on the synthesis and characterization of silver-doped cerium oxide (CeO₂:Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications. CeO₂:Ag NPs with 0 and 11 mol% silver were synthesized via a solution combustion method using Aloe vera extract as a reducing agent, resulting in a single-phase cubic structure with crystallite sizes decreasing as silver concentration increased. Characterization techniques including powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and UV-visible spectroscopy confirmed the structural, morphological, and optical properties, with the energy band gap decreasing from 2.92 eV to 2.2 eV upon doping. The total shielding efficiency (SE_T) of the 11 mol% Ag-doped CeO₂ NPs was evaluated across a broad electromagnetic spectrum, demonstrating superior EMI shielding performance compared to several conventional materials, indicating their potential for EMI shielding applications.
