Abstract
The article focuses on a dynamical view of proportionality in mathematics education, emphasizing the integrity and structural similarity of ratios rather than solely solving for unknown values. Using an example of pricing ground meat, it illustrates how proportional reasoning involves seeing ratios as nested, transformed versions of one another—enlarged or reduced—preserving their relational structure across different quantities. This perspective aligns with research that frames proportionality as a dynamic transformation between equivalent systems, encouraging a deeper understanding of ratio families and covariation. The article also briefly discusses the emerging role of AI tools like ChatGPT in education, highlighting concerns about originality and the evolving nature of mathematical problem-solving beyond traditional "x-finding" tasks.
