Abstract
Fossils of an ancient invertebrate called Shishania aculeata have provided scientists with insight into what mollusks looked like 500 million years ago. The fossils, discovered in China, show that early mollusks lacked shells and instead had a slug-like body covered in a prickly armor made of chitin. The findings suggest a common origin between mollusks and other organisms with similar exoskeletons, such as worms and brachiopods. This research provides valuable evidence for understanding the appearance of early mollusk ancestors. [Extracted from the article]
