Abstract

Researchers are now able to analyze ancient air samples trapped in rocks, providing direct evidence of Earth's atmospheric composition over billions of years. By studying minute pockets of gas and liquid in minerals, scientists have discovered that oxygen levels were high enough to support animal respiration long before animals appeared. Noble gases extracted from rocks reveal insights into the physical processes that shaped the atmosphere, shedding light on Earth's history and evolution. This new approach offers a unique perspective on the planet's past, challenging and confirming assumptions about atmospheric conditions. [Extracted from the article]
