Abstract

The article presents the discussion on SuedLink grid expansion project, which will transport electricity 700 km from northern to southern Germany and includes a 5.2 km tunnel under the Elbe River, with tunnel boring technology provided by Herrenknecht. Topics include project's role in connecting wind power regions with industrial areas, the challenges of tunneling through diverse geology; and the specialized equipment used for the ElbX section.
