Abstract
This article explores six potential roles that Generative AI (GenAI), including Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, could play within teams and organizations. It introduces a framework distinguishing AI interactions based on who initiates and participates—ranging from CoachGPT, which offers personalized advice by observing individuals, to GroupGPT, which supports team collaboration, BossGPT, which manages and coordinates group work, AutoGPT, which autonomously completes multi-step tasks by interacting with other machines, and ImperialGPT, a highly autonomous system directing machines and humans that raises significant ethical and regulatory concerns. The authors emphasize that while early applications like ChatGPT involve human-initiated prompts, more complex AI roles may transform management and coordination but require careful attention to privacy, ethics, and legal implications. Organizations are encouraged to assess these AI roles for potential value and feasibility, balancing innovation with responsible adoption.
