Abstract

The article focuses on the global public health threat posed by questionable health behaviors, such as intentional non-adherence to medical recommendations and the use of traditional, complementary, and alternative medicine. It discusses how these behaviors stem from a reconfiguration of epistemic trust, characterized by selective skepticism towards evidence-based authority and uncritical acceptance of pseudoscientific claims. The article reviews the psychological drivers behind these behaviors and suggests communication strategies to shift trust from unreliable sources to reliable ones, emphasizing the importance of dialogue in addressing the rise of such health practices. The preprint is noted to be unpeer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
