Abstract

A new report from the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) reveals that climate misinformation on YouTube is changing. While videos denying climate change are decreasing, videos attacking renewable energy solutions like wind and solar power are increasing. The report identified 96 YouTube channels that frequently spread misleading climate information, including channels for organizations like the Heartland Institute and PragerU. The researchers found that about half of the climate-related videos contained misinformation or disinformation, with claims falling into categories such as denying global warming, attacking climate solutions, and questioning the credibility of climate experts. The report suggests that YouTube should extend its policies to ban advertising on videos that attack climate solutions and experts. [Extracted from the article]
