Abstract

The article focuses on collaborative efforts by scientists, conservationists, and imaging experts to study and restore coral reefs, which are vital marine ecosystems threatened by climate change. Coral reefs, home to about a quarter of all marine species and important for coastal protection and food, suffer from bleaching caused by rising sea temperatures. Using advanced imaging technology from Canon and coral breeding techniques developed by Coral Spawning International (CSI) and Nature Seychelles, researchers grow resilient corals in tanks to repopulate damaged reefs. Underwater biologist and filmmaker Madeline St Clair has created a virtual reality film to raise awareness of coral reefs and their challenges, emphasizing the need for public engagement in conservation efforts.
