Nucleotide excision repair gene XPD exon 23 gene polymorphism among saudi healthy population: a comparative frequency analysis across healthy population worldwide.

Abstract

This article focuses on the prevalence of the nucleotide excision repair (NER) gene XPD exon 23 A> C polymorphism in the healthy Saudi population and compares it with frequencies observed worldwide. The study found that the minor allele (C) frequency in Saudis (55%) is notably higher than in most other ethnic groups, except for Iran (52%), with the lowest frequency observed in the Chinese population (7%). These significant ethnic differences in allele distribution suggest population-specific genetic susceptibility to cancer linked to DNA repair capacity. Understanding such polymorphism frequencies may aid in cancer risk assessment and personalized treatment strategies within the Saudi population.
