Abstract
"Environmental Philosophy in Desperate Times" is a handbook that introduces the basics of environmental philosophy, aimed at students and instructors in the field. The book explores the leading theorists and their arguments surrounding environmental issues, while also examining the philosophies that have contributed to the current climate crisis. It provides a literature review organized into three sections, discussing the death of the cosmos, environmental theories, and environmental movements. The author, Justin Pack, contextualizes contemporary environmental thought by referencing foundational texts, including Indigenous metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics, ecofeminism, deep ecology, food ethics, animal liberation, and ecocentrism. However, the book does not acknowledge more recent contributions from Indigenous and BIPOC communities to environmental theoretical discourse, which is a notable omission. Overall, the book serves as a comprehensive introduction to the subject. [Extracted from the article]
