Abstract

As a chilly spring breeze lightly brushed his tanned face, Wang Lidong walked around the Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve in Dongying, Shandong province. Wang said the delta's rich wetland ecosystems were also seriously threatened by oil production, industrial waste pollution and land reclamation. In recent years, the city has spent 1.36 billion yuan ($196.7 million) to support 17 wetland protection and restoration proj-ects in the delta, including water supplements, cordgrass treatment, and off shore biodiversity conservation, which has helped strengthen the city's wetland ecosystem.
