Abstract
Mozambique's Criminal Investigation Service and Tax Authority seized a container at Maputo port containing 651 pieces of elephant ivory hidden in bags of corn. This is the third large-scale seizure of ivory from Mozambique since 2022. Mozambique has been urged to take stronger steps to prosecute ivory trafficking, while Botswana has threatened to send 20,000 elephants to Germany in response to pressure to end trophy hunting. Angola has also faced trade sanctions for its failure to tackle elephant poaching and ivory trafficking. [Extracted from the article]
