Abstract

The article focuses on Vincenzo Romanello, Ph.D.’s presentation to the International Peace Coalition regarding the role of advanced nuclear technology in the Oasis Plan, a large-scale initiative aimed at fostering economic development, stability, and peace in the Middle East and North Africa through infrastructure projects. Romanello proposes using Generation IV nuclear reactors and small modular reactors to provide reliable energy for desalination, agriculture, and industrial growth, estimating the total cost at approximately $300 billion. He argues that this investment, achievable by modestly reducing regional military expenditures, could generate significant economic returns through salt valorization and high-tech industries. The Oasis Plan is presented as a peace-building strategy emphasizing cooperation, sustainability, and technological progress rather than military spending.
