Abstract

The Energy Update article discusses the proposals put forth by Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, regarding amendments to the Petroleum Act of 1934. Sheikh commended the response of Senator Musadik Malik and the Director General of Explosives at the Ministry of Petroleum to industry concerns about the handling and licensing of hydrocarbons. FPCCI believes that the Act needs updating to create a more conducive environment for the sector to thrive, with a focus on removing obsolete items and adjusting safety measures to reflect the evolution of the petrochemical industry. Additionally, FPCCI suggests that products in different clauses of the Act should be treated differently in terms of regulatory requirements. [Extracted from the article]
