Abstract

A coalition of international law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and UK National Crime Agency, has disrupted the activities of LockBit, one of the most prolific hacker groups, by shutting down their websites used for ransomware payments. The operation involved 11 countries and seized 11,000 domains used by LockBit and its affiliates. LockBit specializes in using ransomware to encrypt files on victims' computers and demanding payment for their release. The operation also resulted in the arrest of two LockBit actors and the issuance of international warrants and indictments. The takedown is considered the biggest coordinated ransomware case by Europol. [Extracted from the article]
