Abstract
The authors discuss the need to measure racism in addition to race in the scientific study of health disparities in the U.S. Topics explored include the influence of racism on various stages of research from design to dissemination, the use of structural racism in referring to policies and systems that generate inequity, and the adjustments in research practice and accountability needed to eliminate racism from science.
