Abstract

The Biotechnology Risk Assessment Research Grants Program, offered by the Agriculture Department's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, aims to support federal regulatory agencies in making science-based decisions regarding the impact of genetically engineered organisms (GE) on the environment. The program is open to colleges and universities, with a total funding of $5.5 million available for up to 10 awards ranging from $10,000 to $650,000. The evaluation of GE organisms involves assessing potential hazards, the likelihood of hazards occurring, the severity and extent of hazards, and any effects beyond those of unmodified or differently developed organisms. The deadline for proposals is February 29, 2024. [Extracted from the article]
