Abstract

The article shares lessons from federal civil environmental lawsuits in the U.S. Topics discussed include effectiveness of environmental advocacy groups at using the courts to shape federal environmental policy, strengths and gaps in civil society-driven enforcement of environmental laws such as bias toward conflicts related to land use, pollution and energy conservation, and focus of environmental justice advocates on issues that impact Black, poor and historically disadvantaged communities.
