Abstract

Billionaire Jared Isaacman and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis made history by performing the world's first commercial space walk. The pair tested the mobility of the space suits outside of the Crew Dragon craft and reached a peak altitude of 1,400 kilometers above Earth, the farthest humans have traveled since the Apollo program. This space walk, part of the Polaris Dawn mission, is significant because it is the first time private astronauts have conducted a spacewalk, which has traditionally been done by government astronauts. The mission was funded by Isaacman, but the exact amount has not been disclosed. The four-person crew also includes Anna Menon, another SpaceX engineer, and Scott "Kidd" Poteet, Isaacman's friend and a former US Air Force pilot. [Extracted from the article]
