Abstract

The article reports the discovery of a previously unknown moon orbiting Uranus by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, increasing the planet's total known moons to 29. The newly identified moon, designated S/2025 U1, is estimated to be about six miles in diameter, which likely contributed to its prior elusiveness. Uranus' moons are traditionally named after characters from works by William Shakespeare and Alexander Pope, though this new moon has yet to receive an official name pending approval by the International Astronomical Union. Researchers suggest that further moons may still be discovered around Uranus, indicating ongoing complexity in the planet’s satellite system.
