Abstract

The research letter published in the British Journal of Surgery discusses the utility of the New Injury Severity Score (NISS) in assessing bullfighting trauma based on a study conducted at a level I hospital in Spain. The study included 154 patients with bullfighting-related trauma, predominantly caused by goring, resulting in high-energy trauma with a 5% mortality rate. The findings highlight the importance of a reliable injury severity scale, such as NISS, in prioritizing care, facilitating triage, and optimizing treatment strategies for bullfighting trauma patients.
