Abstract
This article focuses on a comparative study examining differences in everyday occupations, personal recovery, and quality of life between older and younger adults with severe mental illness. Conducted by researchers at Lund University, the study involved two groups of day center attendees—49 older adults aged 65 and above, and 65 younger adults under 65—and found that both groups reported similar satisfaction with everyday occupations and quality of life. The older group engaged more in day center activities and showed a trend toward higher recovery levels, possibly reflecting adjusted life expectations over time. The study highlights the need for further research on age-related differences in mental health service users to better support individuals aging with severe mental illness.
