Abstract
The article focuses on the environmental and architectural challenges in the Alps amid accelerating climate change, where the Rhône Glacier has lost 60 percent of its volume since 1850 and the region is warming at twice the global average. Local efforts to protect glaciers, such as covering them with geotextiles, face criticism for cost and environmental impact, while ski resorts increasingly rely on artificial snow and face restrictions on expansion. Architectural responses include preserving heritage buildings through careful restoration and adapting construction to harsh mountain conditions, reflecting a balance between tradition and transformation. The Alps’ changing landscape not only affects local communities and tourism but also resonates globally as a symbol and source of cultural identity. [Extracted from the article]
