Abstract
Zambia and Zimbabwe will receive the lowest amount of water ever allocated for electricity generation next year due to declining levels at Lake Kariba, the largest artificial reservoir in the world. The Zambezi River Authority, which manages the dam, will allocate the countries 16 billion cubic meters of water to be shared equally. This is the lowest allocation on record, with the previous lowest being 20 billion cubic meters in 2016. Lake Kariba is a major power source for both countries, but its output has been limited due to the falling water levels. Both countries have commissioned additional power plants to supplement hydroelectric power from the lake. [Extracted from the article]
