Abstract

The article discusses the discovery of lignite coal in the Thar Desert by the Geological Survey of Pakistan in the early 1990s, leading to the establishment of the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) in 2009. SECMC's efforts have not only focused on coal extraction and energy production but also on transforming the lives of the local community in Thar through inclusive development initiatives. These initiatives include job creation, vocational training, education, healthcare services, gender equality programs, village electrification projects, and environmental conservation efforts, showcasing the positive impact of collaboration between governments, private entities, and local communities in achieving transformative change.
