Abstract

Canada has introduced a new plan to address methane emissions from cattle by implementing a credit trading system. Under the Reducing Enteric Methane Emissions from Beef Cattle proposal, farmers who reduce methane emissions from cow burps can earn credits that can be sold to other businesses to help them meet their own emission targets. Each credit represents a metric tonne of emissions and can be achieved through improved diets, management, and other strategies to support more efficient animal growth. This initiative is part of Canada's broader efforts to combat climate change and was announced during the COP28 climate conference in Dubai. Approximately 10% of Canada's greenhouse gas emissions come from crop and livestock production. [Extracted from the article]
