Phylogenetic placement of the leaf-footed bug tribes Agriopocorini, Amorbini, and Manocoreini (Heteroptera: Coreidae) using ultraconserved elements.

Abstract

This article focuses on resolving the phylogenetic positions of three small tribes—Agriopocorini, Amorbini, and Manocoreini—within the phytophagous insect family Coreidae (superfamily Coreoidea) using ultraconserved elements (UCEs). The study provides the first cladistic analysis including Agriopocorini and Amorbini, confirming their monophyly and placement within the subfamily Coreinae, with Agriopocorini as sister to Colpurini and Amorbini as sister to Mictini. Manocoreini was robustly recovered as sister to the Dasynini + Homoeocerini clade. These findings clarify previous conflicting hypotheses and highlight the importance of including smaller, less diverse tribes in phylogenetic analyses to better understand evolutionary relationships and trait evolution within Coreidae.
