Abstract

Perhaps stromatolites will have layers of plastic contaminated micrite or eroded plastic nurdles trapped and bound along with the carbonate ooids. The earliest fossil stromatolites have been found in rocks dated at over 3.4 Ga (Allwood et al., [1]) but span almost the entirety of geologic time since, documenting a remarkable resiliency in the face of repeated global catastrophic events. 3 Baumgartner, L.K., Spear, J.R., Buckley, D.H., Pace, N.R., Reid, R.P., Dupraz, C. et al.
