Abstract

This article focuses on a study identifying risk factors for suicide in the Colombian Coffee region between 2017 and 2019. Conducted by researchers at the University of Caldas in Manizales, Colombia, the study used a matched case-control design with psychological autopsies on 176 individuals, comparing 101 suicide cases to 75 deaths by road traffic accidents. Key suicide risk factors included forced labor during adolescence, financial dependence, partner abuse, any mental disorder, major depressive disorder, and previous suicide attempts, while the death of a close relative appeared as a protective factor. The research was financially supported by Colombia’s Ministry of Sciences (MINCIENCIAS) and underwent peer review. [Extracted from the article]
