Abstract

Polar bears are facing significant challenges due to the melting sea ice caused by climate change, according to a new study published in Nature Communications. The loss of sea ice is depriving polar bears of their hunting platform, leading to food scarcity and weight loss. The study followed 20 polar bears in Manitoba, Canada, and found that they are scrounging for alternative food sources on land, such as ducks, geese, berries, and even whale carcasses. If the trend continues, polar bears could struggle to survive by the middle of this century. [Extracted from the article]
