Abstract

The article focuses on the taxonomic revision of the genus Hylomys within the Erinaceidae family, revealing that it now comprises seven species instead of two, with all Hylomys populations in China classified as Hylomys peguensis. The authors conducted a phylogenetic analysis that integrated their mitochondrial genome sequencing data with findings from a recent study by Hinckley et al., which described two new species and elevated three subspecies to full species status. The analysis confirmed the congruence of their results with Hinckley et al.'s findings, while also highlighting the need for further investigation into the cryptic diversity and evolutionary history of H. peguensis due to its broad geographic distribution.
