Abstract
This article focuses on enhancing emergency preparedness in hospices within the Philippine context, drawing on a literature review by Baker Rogers that identified six key themes for hospice disaster readiness: Policies and Procedures; Testing/Training/Education; Integration and Coordination; Mitigation; Risk Assessment/Hazard and Vulnerability Analysis; and Regulations. Given the Philippines' vulnerability to natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and droughts, the article emphasizes the need for standardized emergency protocols, regular disaster drills, multisectoral collaboration, infrastructure resilience, and compliance with national disaster regulations in hospice care. It advocates for partnerships among hospices, government agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and local health units to improve coordinated responses and resource sharing during disasters. The article underscores that adopting these strategies can strengthen hospice resilience and ensure continued patient care amid the country’s complex disaster risks.
