Abstract

This article focuses on anthropologist and primatologist Sarah Blaffer Hrdy's book *Father Time*, which explores the evolutionary history and development of paternal care in hominins. Hrdy traces paternal involvement from observations of infanticidal behavior in langur monkeys to hormonal and neurological research showing male caregiving in humans and other species. She argues that male childcare increased during the Pleistocene due to environmental pressures favoring cooperative hunting and food sharing, which enhanced male reputations and mating success. The book also discusses how social and cultural changes over millennia, including patrilineal family structures and modern parenting dynamics, have influenced men's roles in nurturing children.
