Abstract
The article focuses on the rising risk of unintended teenage pregnancy in the United States, highlighting earlier puberty onset in girls and varied contraceptive access following the post-Roe v. Wade legal landscape. Data indicate that puberty now begins earlier, especially among Black and Hispanic girls, while about 30% of teens report sexual activity, often without consistent contraceptive use. Despite a significant decline in teen birth rates over the past two decades, disparities persist across racial groups, and recent abortion restrictions have coincided with reduced sex education and contraceptive availability in some states. The article emphasizes that effective teen pregnancy prevention relies on comprehensive sex education starting before puberty and accessible contraception, challenges that are intensified by current legal and policy shifts.
