Abstract
The article explores the intersection of substance use disorder (SUD), incarceration and low health literacy and highlights challenges faced by clients and healthcare providers in addressing social determinants of health. Topics discussed include contribution of SUD and incarceration to health disparities, significance of health literacy to improving health outcomes, limited healthcare and educational programming in correctionals, and role of social work in achieving equitable healthcare.
