Abstract

This article focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Inclusive Health Fundamentals curriculum created by Special Olympics International (SOI) to address the lack of health care provider training in caring for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The curriculum, consisting of five asynchronous online modules, was piloted at multiple universities globally, showing statistically significant improvements in students' self-reported knowledge and confidence in communicating with people with IDD. The training has been integrated into health profession programs at 130 universities worldwide through required courses, electives, or student organizations, and is freely accessible via the SOI Learning Management System. This initiative aims to reduce health care disparities for people with IDD by enhancing provider education and fostering a more inclusive health care system.
