Abstract
In 1882, Oscar Wilde commissioned a privately printed edition of his play "Vera; or, The Nihilists," which was further revised for a New York production in 1883. Leonard Smithers published an unauthorized edition in 1902, claiming it was based on Wilde's own copy. Recent research has focused on resolving ambiguities in Smithers's notes and identifying Wilde's emendations in the 1882 copy, suggesting that all changes were made by Wilde himself. The study highlights the complexity of Wilde's revisions and the challenges in accurately documenting them. [Extracted from the article]
