Abstract

The article focuses on the transformation of Iran from a secular monarchy to a totalitarian theocracy following the 1979 revolution led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. It discusses how Khomeini's doctrine of Velayat-e Faqih centralized power in the hands of a supreme religious leader, undermining the political rights and identities of various groups, including women, intellectuals, and marginalized communities. Despite decades of state violence and repression, a new generation of Iranians, particularly young women, has emerged, advocating for individualism and cultural expression, challenging the regime's legitimacy. The article emphasizes the importance of confronting societal differences and the role of storytelling in the ongoing struggle for a democratic future in Iran. [Extracted from the article]
