Abstract

The FBI, French, and Moldovan crime agencies conducted raids on suspected members of a gang involved in a bribery scheme to block Interpol "Red Notices." The authorities targeted a dozen suspects in over 30 locations in Moldova, resulting in the detention of four individuals and the confiscation of devices such as phones, laptops, and computers. The evidence suggests that a group of individuals with different citizenships set up the corruption scheme to help fugitives under Interpol's Red Notices obtain asylum or refugee status in Moldova and other countries. The bribes amounted to millions of dollars. Interpol detected attempted wrongdoing in a small number of cases and reported it to the authorities. Additionally, UK authorities flagged a separate cybercrime investigation focused on individuals in Moldova suspected of passing information about Red Notices to wanted persons.
