Abstract
This article from Illinois Heritage discusses the life of Judge William Barclay Napton and his relationship with Abraham Lincoln. Despite some similarities in their backgrounds, such as both having fathers who were elected officers in the militia, Napton and Lincoln followed different paths. Napton settled in Boonville, Missouri, where he became a newspaper owner and supported the local Democrats. He eventually became a judge and held pro-slavery views. The article highlights the differences between Napton and Lincoln, emphasizing that assumptions cannot be made about a person based on their background. [Extracted from the article]
