Abstract
This article examines differences between objective cognitive test scores and self-reported cognitive symptoms among university athletes diagnosed with sports-related concussions (SRC). Using the Sideline Concussion Assessment Tool (SCAT-5), the study found no significant changes in objective cognitive performance from baseline to post-injury, but athletes reported significantly increased symptoms related to memory and concentration after injury. At baseline, there was a significant negative correlation between cognitive scores and symptom reports, which was not present post-injury. The findings suggest that psychological distress following concussion may influence athletes' perceptions of their cognitive difficulties despite stable objective cognitive functioning.
