Abstract

The article explores the hidden native identities of speakers of the Atakapa/Yukhiti language in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana between 1885 to 1908. Topics discussed include tribal affiliations of Native Americans in Calcasieu Parish, genealogy and family history of the Calcasieu Atakapa Ishak, and Atakapa identities of Louison Bonin/Huntington, Delia or Dalila Moss, Eliza Verdine, Rosemond Verdine, Delphine Williams, Ellen Esclovon, Felix Watell Jr., Eugene Reon, Onezime Reon and Mary Jones.
