Abstract
This article evaluates staff experiences with the Values-Based Goal-Setting Pathway (VGSP) implemented in a Specialist Neurorehabilitation Unit (SNRU) to enhance patient motivation and collaborative rehabilitation following Acquired Brain Injuries (ABIs). The VGSP integrates patients' personal values with SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals through multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaboration, aiming to provide holistic, patient-centered care. Staff reported that the VGSP improved patient engagement, motivation, and interdisciplinary collaboration but identified challenges including increased administrative workload, inconsistent communication with patients and families, and resource limitations. Suggestions for improvement focused on streamlining meetings, enhancing team involvement, and better communication strategies to support sustainable implementation. Overall, the VGSP was viewed as an acceptable and promising approach to values-based neurorehabilitation, contingent on addressing practical barriers.
