Abstract

The article focuses on the investigation of a fatal collision between an Air Canada Express jet, operated by Jazz Aviation LP, and a fire truck at New York's LaGuardia Airport in March 2026. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that runway entrance lights warning of an active runway were on until about three seconds before the crash, which killed both pilots on the plane. Contributing factors included a failure of the ground monitoring system to detect the conflict and the fire truck lacking a transponder to aid location tracking. The fire truck was crossing the runway with air traffic control clearance while responding to an unrelated emergency on a United Airlines flight, and communication confusion occurred between controllers and the truck operators. This incident marked the first deadly accident at LaGuardia in over 30 years. [Extracted from the article]
