Abstract
The article focuses on the occupation of Alcatraz island in San Francisco Bay by a Native American student movement called "Indians of All Tribes" in the late 1960s. The author discusses the Native American strategy of political intervention in Alcatraz and analyzes the two manifestos issued by the movement in 1969, "“Proclamation to the Great White Father and All His People" and "The Letter."
