Abstract
This article focuses on differences in clock drawing task (CDT) performance among World Trade Center (WTC) responders at midlife, examining its association with cognitive impairment (CI) consistent with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD). The study compared CDT errors between 50 WTC responders diagnosed with CI and 49 without, finding significantly more errors in multiple CDT components among those with CI. The findings suggest that CDT is a useful, non-invasive tool for early detection and longitudinal monitoring of cognitive decline in high-risk populations like WTC responders. The authors recommend further research to explore additional measures addressing comorbid conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in this group.
