Abstract

This article examines the academic identity, habits, and collaborative strategies of ten highly productive Chinese scholars in social science fields who publish extensively in top-tier international journals indexed by the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). It highlights that these researchers are motivated by strong academic self-efficacy, a sense of social responsibility, and the pressures of bibliometric evaluation systems prevalent in Chinese academia. Key factors contributing to their productivity include effective time management, maintaining work–life balance, continuous learning, and strategic collaboration, particularly through mentoring graduate students and selecting compatible research partners. The study underscores the interplay between intrinsic motivations and external institutional demands in shaping scholarly productivity and suggests further research across disciplines to deepen understanding of academic success.
