Abstract

This article focuses on the escalation of intimate partner violence during separation, highlighting it as a high-risk phase for potentially fatal outcomes. Analyzing court records from three cases in Germany, the study emphasizes the importance of police assessing the overall history of violence rather than isolated incidents. It advocates for targeted interventions aimed at perpetrators and enhanced inter-institutional cooperation to improve early identification and risk assessment. The findings offer recommendations for police prevention strategies to better address violence in the context of intimate partner separation.
