Abstract

A case report in the journal "Contact Dermatitis" discusses a 56-year-old male florist who developed chronic hand eczema and onychodystrophy due to allergic contact dermatitis from handling Euphorbia pulcherrima (poinsettia) latex. Patch tests and skin prick tests confirmed the allergic reaction to poinsettia latex, indicating a dual mechanism of allergic response involving IgE and T-cell mediation. The study highlights the importance of considering allergic sensitization to poinsettia latex, especially among florists and plant breeders, due to its potential to cause contact dermatitis.
